At Right Brain, we provide a comprehensive education designed to unlock each student's full potential. Our approach is centered on cultivating essential skills, such as drawing, painting, design, observation, and critique, while instilling a strong work ethic. We don't just focus on technical skills—we help students develop the endurance and mindset necessary for continuous learning and growth. Through a customized vision map, we offer students a foundational roadmap, providing the tools they need to navigate not only their artistic journey but also their broader life experiences. Each step builds on the last, fostering a lifelong process of upgrading skills and evolving as an artist.
We emphasize long-term development over shortcuts. While many schools focus on creating portfolios to get students into college, we take a hands-off-the-work approach that encourages students to truly master their craft. We don’t do the work for them. Instead we provide realistic timelines and guidance, ensuring that our students build the skills and resilience to thrive in school and beyond. Our graduates don’t just meet academic requirements—they excel, often finding that their collegiate experience is easier because of the comprehensive toolkit we've helped them develop. This journey equips them with the tools to succeed not only in art and design but in any field they choose, offering a foundation for a fulfilling career and life.

We offer a comprehensive approach to help graduating students and professionals refine their portfolios and prepare for a job application or career shift. The program begins with a thorough portfolio review and assessment, identifying gaps in areas such as color, composition, photo reference use, and subject matter variety. Based on the individual's timeline and commitment, a tailored foundation course is often suggested to build essential skills, or for more advanced candidates, the focus shifts directly to portfolio development, aimed at creating finished works suited to their career goals.
The program also includes interview preparation and resume review, ensuring participants are well-prepared to present themselves professionally. This holistic approach ensures that participants leave with a polished portfolio and the skills needed to navigate the job market successfully.

We offer a personalized, deep-dive approach to preparing students for college admissions, focusing on essay writing, portfolio building, and resume development. Essay prep involves uncovering each student's unique experiences through interviews, helping them craft compelling and authentic essays that stand out. Similarly, the portfolio-building process is tailored, guiding students through foundational courses and long-term portfolio production typically over two years to create 10-12 high-quality pieces that reflect their growth and artistic abilities.
In addition to creative preparation, the program provides accountability for the administrative side of college applications, including selecting appropriate schools, fulfilling application requirements, and ensuring students have internships or community service experience. The process emphasizes realistic timelines and avoids handholding, empowering students to take ownership of their progress. This approach ensures graduates have a strong, market-ready portfolio and the confidence to succeed in both college admissions and beyond.

The "Foundations Course" program is designed for adults and college-level students to build essential art skills over a two-term period (one year). This program does not require previous art education to enroll. We focuses on key principles and techniques that lay a strong foundation for artistic growth, emphasizing skill-building rather than portfolio production.
In Term 1, students will focus on:
Perspective and composition to structure their artwork effectively.
Values and line quality to enhance drawing fundamentals.
Design research and work ethic, covering professional skills like organization, planning, craftsmanship, and integrity.
In Term 2, students will dive deeper into:
Medium exploration and painting techniques.
Figure drawing and color theory, including exercises on monochromatic and split complementary palettes.
Storytelling and narrative creation within their work.
Presentation and communication skills to articulate their ideas effectively.
The program requires a minimum of two classes per week, with the expectation that students spend at least an hour working in their sketchbooks five days a week. While the course builds crucial skills, students will not produce portfolio-ready work. Instead, the goal is to develop a solid foundation in drawing, painting, and design, giving them the necessary tools to advance their artistic practice in future projects.

Our world class K-8 program offers a structured, multi-level approach to developing young artists' foundational skills in drawing, painting, and observation.
Level 1 focuses on basic art skills, such as drawing and coloring simple shapes, as well as improving fine motor skills through activities like cutting, pasting, and coloring within the lines. Students use materials such as crayons, markers, oil pastels, and stickers to develop these early art techniques.
Level 2 builds on these foundations by introducing more complex shapes, objects, and observational skills. Students are also introduced to painting and collage while learning basic art concepts like the horizon line, sky and ground separation, and shading. Projects extend over multiple weeks, helping students understand the process of creating finished artwork.
Level 3 dives deeper into the elements of art, including line, shape, texture, and color theory. Students learn to break down objects into shapes, work with depth and space, and apply consistent shading. They also expand their use of materials, experimenting with charcoal, watercolors, acrylics, ink wash, and more advanced techniques like printmaking and scratch board.
We require an in-person assessment to determine which level a new student will be placed. -
